There is a disparity between the number of people who need substance abuse treatment and the number of people who receive it. As noted previously in Section 2.1.3, the 2001 National Household Survey on addiction treatment dallas Abuse found that the number of people age 12 and over who abused alcohol or illicit alcohol detox dallass (16.6 million) was more than five times greater than the number of people in the same age group who received substance abuse treatment (3.1 million).
